Treasure Island to Become ‘Revis Island’
The New York Jets may have shied away from throwing at him last week, but Darrelle Revis’ new home is ensuring he receives the proper housewarming party in time for Sunday’s home opener against the Saints.
On Thursday, Sept 12 at 2 p.m., the City of Treasure Island in Pinellas County will officially become “Revis Island,” honoring the Buccaneers’ new cornerback known for his ability to cover elite wideouts with virtually no help from safeties.
Mayor Bob Minning will hold a special poolside ceremony at The Club at Treasure Island featuring Mr. Revis Island himself, along with front office members, cheerleaders, and Captain Fear. The public is invited to attend.
While the names of the two geographic locales are quite similar, the origins of of the latter are somewhat unclear and include tales of a pirate-turned-turtle farmer named John Levique losing his buried treasure to a hurricane that swept away much of the island in 1848.
Revis Island, on the other hand, has been well-documented over the years thanks to technological advancements in film, the verbal and written accounts of disgruntled receivers, and some paperwork Revis actually filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office in 2010 (yes, the name ‘Revis Island’ is actually trademarked).
While Revis seizes control of the quaint little beach town for a day, perhaps he can do us all a favor and ‘shut down’ those notorious speed traps that make beach outings such a pain.
He might want to consider levying those drinking ordinances over at Caddy’s too.
