Torn Meniscus Ends Season for Jonathan Casillas

Bucs LB Jonathan CasillasThe Bucs may have lost to the Carolina Panthers Sunday, but a certain warrior on defense who continued to play through injury may win over some fans with this courageous feat.

Starting strong-side linebacker Jonathan Casillas suffered a torn meniscus while playing against the Panthers Sunday, a source close to Casillas told Sports Talk Florida.

On Wednesday, the Bucs announced that Casillas' season was officially over and he'd be placed on injured reserve, however no specifics about the injury were given.

According to an account head coach Greg Schiano gave during his weekly radio show, Casillas twisted his knee during the game but never told anyone about it until he was too injured to play.

Hes locked up with a guy and [the knee]gets twisted, and thats the way that kind of knee injury usually occurs. And he kept playing on it. Jon is one of the tougher guys that Ive been around, Schiano said via JoeBucsFan and WDAE.

He went on to play 40 of 62 defensive snaps (62-percent)and 20 on special teams (83-percent), finishing the game with six tackles on defense and one tackle on special teams.

He kept playing on it and then finally, you know, I didnt know that it happened. He just came to me and said, I cant run anymore. AndI didnt even know anything had happened. Thats the kind of guy he is. I said, 'Okay, go see the trainer."

Casillaswill undergo surgery to repair the injury, which should heal in about four weeks if all goes according to plan.
