Top 5 NFL Free Agents Left To Be Signed
The NFL Free Agency period may have began last week, but some top players still have not been signed. Here’s a list of top, available free agents.
DT Henry Melton, Chicago Bears
The 27-year-old was in recent contract negotiations with the Seahawks, according to ESPN’s Ian Rapoport. But, now this sought-after defensive player is in Dallas visiting with the Cowboys. According to The Dallas Morning News, Melton’s visit to Valley Ranch could give the Cowboys the chance to “lay out the red carpet and close a deal with a player who could help provide an immediate upgrade” to a defensive line that lost two starters to other teams last week.
C Alex Mack, Cleveland Browns
Mack is being looked at by four different teams and while he is being quite secretive about who those teams are, he has confirmed that the Colts are one of them. However, Indianapolis sign Phil Costa last week so the chances of signing Mack are a tad slimmer now.
According to Indy Star, the Browns are committed to paying Mack $10 million for one season if he plays under the transition tag. They could have used the franchise tag and received two first-round draft picks as compensation if Mack signed with another team, but that also comes with a larger salary ($11.654 million).
TE Jermichael Finley, Green Bay Packers
Sources confirm that Finley is very close to signing with the Seahawks but there is a hold up. His medical clearance must come through before he can ink his name anywhere.
According to NFL.com, “Finley’s camp has been optimistic all along that he will return to the field. He has been cleared for everything but full contact at this point. Once that happens, he’s in line to join a Seahawks’ offense that could use his punch at tight end.”
CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Denver Broncos
The Broncos offered to resign Rodgers-Cromartie but he reportedly declined the six year deal worth $54 million. The Giants and the Jets are interested in the cornerback and they should both get a visit soon.
According to Cleveland.com, if either the Jets or Giants fails to sign him, he might make his way to Cleveland. Dell reported Sunday that the Browns have extended an invitation to the seventh-year pro, and he’s likely to take the visit unless the Jets or Giants make him an offer he can’t refuse.
DE Jared Allen, Minnesota Vikings
Some sources are wondering if Allen is willing to retire if he doesn’t get the contract he wants. Over the past seven years, he’s averaged 14.5 sacks and he will be 32 years old next month. But the retirement rumors are being shut down by reports that Allen is visiting with Seattle.
ESPN NFL Insider Ed Werder is reporting that Allen has completed a visit with the Seattle Seahawks and is scheduled to meet with Dallas Cowboys‘ coaches on Tuesday, with the hope of deciding his future at some point this week, according to league sources.
