The Marlins dropped the first game of the weekend series to the Brewers 9-5 on Friday night and move to 2-2 on the current homestand.

Tom Koehler got the start, but struggled as he surrendered 7 earned runs over 5 innings on 9 hits, including two home runs to Mark Reynolds.

Despite Friday’s rough start, though, Koehler’s ERA still sits at just 3.10 on the season.

With the loss, the Marlins are now 3 games back of the first place Braves and 1.5 games back of the Cardinals for the second wildcard spot.

Giancarlo Stanton & Garrett Jones Go Deep Twice:

Giancarlo Stanton extended his NL-leading HR and RBI totals as he hit his 13th & 14th home runs and drove in his 46th & 47th RBI’s on the season.

As we mentioned earlier today, Stanton is getting closer to becoming the Marlins fastest player to reach 50 RBI’s in franchise history.

He might also challenge Gary Sheffield’s single-season home run record of 42 set back in 1996, and Preston Wilson’s single-season RBI record of 121 set back in 2001.

Right now, Stanton is on pace to hit 46 HR’s and drive in 155 RBI’s.

Garrett Jones also hit two homers, his 9th and 10th on the season, as he continued his resurgence with the Marlins this season.

You can watch Jones’ second home run here.

However, the rest of the lineup offered little resistance to the Brewers pitching staff.

Stanton and Jones went a combined 4-7 with 4 HR’s and 4 RBI’s, but the rest of the lineup went 4-29 (.138) with one RBI and 9 strikeouts.

The Marlins will look to rebound tomorrow against the Brew Crew, as they will send Jacob Turner (0-2, 6.59) to the hill. The Brewers will counter with Willy Peralta (4-3, 2.18).
