Titans Release Matthew Hasselbeck
The Tennessee Titans have released quarterback Matthew Hasselbeck, the team announced Monday.
Hasselbeck was set to make $5.5 million in 2013. The team is moving forward with Jake Locker as the starter and $5.5 million is a lot of money to pay a backup, 37-year-old quarterback.
“I want to thank Matt for his contributions to our team over the last two years,” Titans General Manager Ruston Webster said in the statement. “He was an important part of the transition process – he was a pro at every turn and he provided an example to the rest of the team. I know that we are a better team for his being here and we wish him the best.”
The Titans were reportedly interested in former Bills quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick and brought him in for a visit earlier Monday. They may sign him to be the new backup behind Locker.
