Tigers DH Delmon Young Wins ALCS MVP Award

DETROIT (AP) Detroit Tigers designated hitter Delmon Young has been selected MVP of the AL championship series.

Young batted .353 with two homers and six RBIs in a four-game sweep of the New York Yankees, capping his big series Thursday with a run-scoring single in the first inning to send Detroit on its way to an 8-1 rout in Game 4.

Young became the first player with four game-winning RBIs in one postseason series, according to STATS LLC.

The top pick in the 2003 amateur draft, Young developed a reputation for having a volatile temper early in his career. He had an uneven 2012 regular season on the field and was arrested in New York in April on a hate-crime harassment charge.
