ARDMORE, Pa. – Sergio Garcia approached Tiger Woods on the Merion Golf Club practice range Monday, as the two competitors shook hands and chatted briefly in advance of this week’s U.S. Open.
When asked for comment on their meeting, Woods told ESPN.com, “I’m not going there,” then hinted that he would elaborate during his Tuesday news conference.
The players’ long-standing feud came to a head at last month’s Players Championship, when Garcia accused his playing partner of knowingly pulling a club out of his bag just before he swung, creating applause from the nearby gallery. That was only the beginning, though, as one week later at a European Tour gala Garcia answered a playful question about whether the two players would get together during the U.S. Open by saying, “We’ll have him ’round every night. We will serve fried chicken.”
