The Orioles Adam Jones Has Harsh Words for Fans on The Field
Baltimore Orioles Outfielder Adam Jones made headlines yesterday after his harsh words against fans who run onto the field, and joined Jay Mohr Sports today to clarify what he thinks the league reaction should be to prevent this from happening. Below is an excerpt from the conversation:
Jones: “I like the fact that Major League Baseball has stepped in. You know, they’ve added extra security at every ballpark to, you know, handle these issues. But we’ve got to talk to the baseball fans. I mean, you love us; you love our team; you love your team; you know, you root for the players; you cuss out the other players, but it’s still passionate for your team. Let’s not be idiots…Stay the hell off the field, or pay the price…Increase the fines. Because I’ve heard, you know, some people ban them a year. They might get fined, you know, $1,000 for trespassing. Ok, $1,000 is a lot of money – ok, that’s fine. Let’s start increasing that to $10,000, $20,000. I guarantee you, if you start messing with people’s money, people start to listen to you…If you just say, ‘Oh, you’re suspended. You can’t come back here for a year.’ – ‘Alright, I’m going to grow a mustache and come out’…If they want to come on the field, ok. Make the penalties harsh because, when you set an example for somebody, if you hear somebody like saying, ‘Man, I got fined $25,000 for coming out on the field,’ – ‘where am I going to get $25,000 at?’”
