Gators are 5th in Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup

The Gators drop to 5th in the Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup race.

Stanford has reclaimed first place in one of the closest Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup races. The Cardinal finished first in women’s tennis, second in women’s water polo, ninth in women’s lacrosse, 13th in women’s golf and 33rd in men’s tennis.

The Cardinal has 1233.00 total points.

Michigan fell to second in the standings and currently has 1003.25 total points. The Wolverines finished ninth in women’s tennis and 33rd in men’s tennis. Penn State remains in third place with 1001.25 total points. The Nittany Lions finished third in men’s volleyball, fifth in women’s lacrosse, ninth in men’s lacrosse and 55th in women’s golf.

North Carolina climbed into fourth with 991.00 total points. The Tar Heels finished first in women’s lacrosse, fifth in men’s lacrosse and women’s tennis and 28th in women’s golf.

Florida fell to fifth place with 983.50 points. The Gators finished third in women’s tennis, fifth in women’s lacrosse, 17th in women’s golf and 33rd in men’s tennis.

The SEC now leads all conferences with three institutions in the top 10 – Florida (5th), Georgia (9th) and Texas A&M (10th).

Seven of 13 NCAA spring championships have been completed with the following institutions capturing titles: women’s water polo – USC; rifle – West Virginia; men’s volleyball – UC Irvine; women’s golf –USC; women’s lacrosse – North Carolina; men’s lacrosse – Duke; men’s tennis – Virginia; and women’s tennis – Stanford.

For those nor familiar with the Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the e National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution’s finish in up to 20 sports — 10 women’s and 10 men’s.

The next standing will be out June 15th and we will see if the Gators can move back up in the race.
