BRUINS LOOK TO STAY HOT AT HOME
The Senators visit the Bruins in the clubs’ second meeting of the 2013-14 season. Ottawa scored four unanswered goals, highlighted by Jared Cowen’s winner midway through the third period, to defeat Boston 4-2 in their first matchup Nov. 15. The Bruins, however, have won 13 of their last 16 games versus the Senators, including six of the past eight in Boston. Overall, the Bruins are 12-0-2, including seven consecutive victories, in their last 14 games at TD Garden, their longest home winning and point streaks since a 14-game winning streak Oct. 25, 2008-Jan. 1, 2009.
RANGERS, CAPITALS RENEW ACQUAINTANCES
The Rangers face off against the Capitals in the third of four meetings this season, following road victories by each team in their first two matchups. Tonight’s contest marks the 200th regular-season meeting between the clubs, with Washington (93-82-24) holding a 210-200 points advantage in the all-time series (NYR: 88-87-24). The Rangers, however, are 8-3-1 in their last 12 regular-season matchups and have eliminated the Capitals – in seven games – from each of the past two postseasons (2013 CQF, 2012 CSF). Overall, New York is coming off a franchise-record nine-game homestand (3-4-2), while Washington has lost three of its past four (1-2-1).
CENTRAL DIVISION RIVALS MEET IN CHICAGO
The Blackhawks play host to the Avalanche in the second of five meetings this season. Colorado has won five of its last seven games against Chicago, including a 5-1 victory Nov. 19, and has gained points in six of its past eight visits to United Center (4-2-2). Overall, the Blackhawks have won six of their last eight contests (6-1-1), while the Avalanche have earned points in six of their past seven (3-1-3). Patrick Kane, who ranks second in the NHL with 22-27—49 in 39 outings this season, is riding a 12-game point streak (7-14—21), his second such streak in 2013-14 (Nov. 3-27: 8-9—17).
