Tampa Bay Rays Infirmary Report
Notes On Injured Tampa Bay Rays Players:
Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Yunel Escobar returns to the lineup for the first time since the June 24th game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He missed the minimum 15 days and was 1 for 7 in two rehab games with the Charlotte Stone Crabs. Interesting note: Escobar returns not having struck out in 52 straight plate appearances which is the longest active streak in the majors. In order to make room on the roster reliever Jake McGee was placed on the paternity list.
Outfielder Wil Myers had his cast removed today but has not been given the clearance to resume baseball related activity. He has not played since injuring himself in a collision with Desmond Jennings at Fenway Park back on May 30th (39 games missed).
Outfielder David DeJesus has been on the disabled list since fracturing his hand in his last plate appearance against the Baltimore Orioles on June 18th (21 games missed).
Outfielder Jerry Sands will miss the remainder of the 2014 season as the strained tendon in his left wrist will require surgery. The injury occurred in his final plate appearance against the Houston Astros on June 22nd.
Ryan Hanigan was originally in the Rays lineup for tonight’s game but was removed due to soreness in his left side.
