Rays and Pirates Finish In 2-2 Tie

David Price Makes Spring Debut, Cameron Seitzer Homers In Ninth To Tie Game

The Tampa Bay Rays traveled to Bradenton to take on the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday afternoon for the first of four Grapefruit League games against the Bucs. The two teams will meed twice in Port Charlotte (March 8 and March 13) and one more in Bradenton on March 15th (split-squad). The two teams will meet in the regular season at Tropicana Field from June 23 through 25th

The game featured the Grapefruit League debut of David Price who pitched 1.2 innings allowing a run on one hit without walking or striking out a batter. After the game he said that the key for him was gaining early command of his fastball and feeling healthy after the game. It was the first time he had an opportunity to work with new catcher Ryan Hanigan and although the two didn’t have a lot of time out there he commented that he enjoyed it and that Hanigan was really good (Post-Game Video Here).

Price was followed on the mound by Jeff Beliveau, Mark Lowe, Jake McGee, Brad Boxberger, Alex Colome, Matt Andriese, Enny Romero, Mark Montgomery, and Victor Mateo.

The Pirates scored a run in the 2nd inning on a Clint Barmes double off Jeff Beliveau scored Robert Andino and a solo homer by Russel Martin off Mark Lowe in the 3rd.

The Rays scored their first run in typical early spring training style.  Sean Rodriguez reached first after being hit by a pitch, stole second, and advanced to third and scored on errors committed by Pirate infielders. Their second run came in the top of the 9th inning as Cameron Seitzer delivered a solo homer off Zack Thornton.
