Lightning Retain Third Pick in NHL Entry Draft

The Tampa Bay Lightning entered Monday’s NHL entry draft lottery with a 14.2 percent chance of bringing home the first pick , and while that did not happen, the night was not a complete loss.

With the Colorado Avalanche, originally slated with the No. 2 overall pick based on the final NHL standings, winning the draft lottery, it assured the Lightning would not move to the No. 4 draft position. In this draft, that is a big deal. With defenseman Seth Jones likely heading to the Avalanche with the top overall pick, it leaves one of C Nathan MacKinnon and LW Jonathan Drouin for general manager Steve Yzerman to pick from. From there, there is a bit of a drop in terms of talent.

So while Seth Jones would have been nice for the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Draft Lottery was not a complete loss.
