Tampa Bay Lightning Fall To Winnipeg Jets 2-1 In Overtime
Anders Lindback Stellar Effort Not Enough As Lighting Fall 2-1 In Overtime
The Tampa Bay Lightning picked up a point but lost at home to the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday night. The defeat drops the Lightnings record to 17-10-2 while the victory improves the Jets to 14-13-4.
For their efforts Montoya and Lindback were named the games #1 and #2 stars respectively.
The Jets got off to a fast start and dominated the Lightning over the games first 30 minutes which included taking a lead at the5:25 mark of the first period onBlake Wheeler's seventh goal on the year with assists toJacob Trouba(4) and Grant Clitsome (7).
After being outshot 15-5 in the first period the Lightning continued to struggle shooting the puck and had only 9 shots on goal midway through the second period. As if a light switch went on the Lightning began to move with urgency and shoot the puck with much greater frequency. The hard work paid off as with just 1.2 seconds left Nate Thompson, who had been kicked out of the face off circle moments earlier, received a pass from Radko Gudas and blasted home the game tying goal. It was Thompson's second goal on the season with the assist going to Gudas (6) and Martin St. Louis (15).
The Lighting came out and continued to pressure the Jets defense in the third period and outshot them 12-6 but were unable to find the back of the net and the game went into overtime.
It appeared as the Lightning was going to win the game 0:39 seconds into overtime when Alex Killorn broke through the defense and was one-on-one with Montoya but his shot hit the post.
After the game Lightning Coach Jon Cooper said of his teams struggles to shoot the puck, "I think the game would change if the only goals that were shown on highlight shows were the ones that went off of skates and butts in the net. If those were the only ones they showed and they didn't show the cool guy goals, you'd see completely different players. But everyone wants to be that guy who wants to score that type of goal."
