Sunday Notes: Gavin Floyd Activated From DL, Will Debut Tuesday

Gavin Floyd was activated from the disabled list Sunday morning after a 12-month recovery from Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery and will make a spot start for the Braves on Tuesday in Atlanta against the visiting Cardinals.

It was Ervin Santana‘s turn in the Braves’ rotation, but Santana suffered a bruised thumb during an at-bat last week so he’s going to be skipped as a precautionary move.

Floyd — who was signed to a one-year, $4.5 million contract this winter — will likely shift to a bullpen role after Tuesday’s start, even if it goes well, as the Braves already have a really strong five-man rotation between Santana, Julio Teheran, Alex Wood, Aaron Harang, and Mike Minor.
