The college football season is winding down but week 14 is one of the most important of them all for Florida teams. In-state rivalries have historically been known for crazy fan antics, hardcore player preparations, and tons of media hype.
The first rivalry game is Friday night when the “War on I-4” kicks of between the Knights of UCF and the South Florida Bulls. This rivalry has been known to leave Central Florida disappointed since the Bulls have served losses for the past four match ups. This year, UCF will host the battle at the Bright House Networks Stadium in Orlando.
This year might be a little different for these teams. UCF is ranked in the top 25 and they have had a pretty successful season. The Knights beat Rutgers last week. The Bulls on the other hand, haven’t seen as much success. With only 2 wins this season, the Bulls will have many adjustments in practice this week in order to stand a chance on Friday night. The game will air at 8 PM on ESPN.
If you venture up the state and into Gainesville, you’ll find another big rivalry war. The Seminoles of Florida State will be battling the Florida Gators in the Swamp on Saturday. This rivalry is many years old but for the first time in over ten years, the Noles are a National Championship contender. Just last week, FSU broke a school record and scored 80 points in their last home game of the season. Despite the negativity surrounding QB Jameis Winston and his legal allegations, the Seminoles have not lost focus on the field.
The Gators are not very well suited for this match up. Florida is suffering from a terrible season. They are getting tons of scrutiny for losing last week to Georgia Southern, an FCS team, and the Gators are not bowl eligible. Saturday’s game will most likely be difficult for this Florida team.
The Seminoles kick off against the Gators at noon on Saturday.
