Stanley Cup Playoffs News And Notes

MORNING STANLEY CUP OF JOE JUNE 3, 2013

SUNDAYS RESULT

CHICAGO 4, LOS ANGELES 2; CHI leads 2-0

The Blackhawks scored the first four goals of the game to chase Jonathan Quick midway through the second period and Corey Crawford made 29 saves to backstop Chicago to its fifth consecutive victory.

TIME TO SHINE

Bryan Bickells goal early in the second period proved to be the game-winner, his second of the playoffs. Bickell has six goals overall in 14 games this postseason, or one every 2.33 contests. He recorded nine goals in 48 regular-season games this year, or one every 5.33 contests.

GOOD TO BE HOME

Chicago goaltender Corey Crawford improved to 8-1 with a 1.50 goals-against average and .940 save percentage in nine starts at United Center this postseason. That matches his home win total from the entire regular season, when he went 8-2-3 with a 2.26 goals-against average and .917 save percentage in 13 appearances.

HIGH FIVE

Chicago forwards Marian Hossa (2-46) and Michal Handzus (2-35) both extended their point streaks to five games. For Hossa, the five-game streak matches the longest of his postseason career (also accomplished in 2002 as a member of the Senators). For Handzus, who was acquired by the Blackhawks just prior to the 2013 Trade Deadline, the five-game stretch is the longest of his playoff career.

QUICK END

Los Angeles goaltender Jonathan Quick was pulled midway through the second period after allowing four goals on 17 shots. He had not been pulled from a game (regular season or playoffs) since March 14 at San Jose, a stretch of 30 consecutive starts. Quick had not been pulled from a postseason game since April 23, 2010, at Vancouver, a stretch of 41 straight playoff starts.

STREAKS SNAPPED

Sundays game marked the end of two record streaks by the Kings: the teams 34-game postseason stretch of not allowing more than three goals and Jonathan Quicks individual record of the same number. The team mark was seven games longer than previous record of 27, set by Detroit from 2002 to 2006. Quicks individual streak was six starts longer than the old record of 28, set by Montreals Patrick Roy from 1992 to 1994. The last time the Kings or Quick allowed more than three goals in a playoff game was April 25, 2011, when Los Angeles lost, 4 3, in overtime to San Jose in Game 6 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals.
