St. Louis scores hat trick in 1st, ties Kontos for most goals in a game
Tampa Bay Lightning captain Martin St. Louis is not letting his age get to him at all. On Saturday in a matinée match-up against the San Jose Sharks, St. Louis scored a first period hat trick.
There was a bit of delay for the hat tossing, however, as the goal was reviewed because J.T. Brown might have tipped it in. As soon as it was confirmed, the hats began to fly and the ice crew began picking them up. After the game, the hats will be donated to Metropolitan Ministries.
It was the second quickest hat trick scored in franchise history with St. Louis owning the fastest as well. That one came against the Carolina Hurricanes in 2006 and was 1:17 faster than the one against the Sharks.
Not content with the hat trick, St. Louis also sniped a shot past Sharks goalie Antti Niemi for his fourth of the game tying Chris Kontos for most goals in a game in Tampa Bay Lightning history. Kontos scored his four goals against the Chicago Blackhawks in the Lightning’s 1992 inaugural season.
