Update: Miami signed one last recruit at 3PM. Jawand Blue, MLB, West Boca High School, (FL)  3 Stars, completed the Hurricanes 24-member Signing Day class.

National Signing Day is upon us and Al Golden is putting together another solid class for the Hurricanes.

By the end of today, Miami could be looking at a Top 10 or even a Top 5 class.

Here’s a breakdown of who Miami has been able to sign so far.

The Hurricanes were able to sign 8 players before February 1st and most of them were ranked 3 or 4 stars by the major recruiting websites (Scout, ESPN, Rivals, Max Preps)

Of the early enrollees the most notable recruit is OLB, Raphael Kirby, Stephenson High School (GA.) According to analysts Kirby plays well against the run and has the strength and speed to be a factor on plays all over the field.

The rest of the early enrolles are as follows:

Ereck Flowers, OT, Miami Norland High School, (FL) 3/4 Stars

Dwayne Hoilett, DE, Vero Beach High School, (FL) 3 Stars

Preston Dewey, QB, St. Andrews Episcopal, (TX) 3/4 Stars

Larry Hope, CB, American High School, (FL) 3 Stars

Josh Witt, OLB, Cypress Bay High School, (FL) 2/3 Stars

Taylor Gadbois, OL, East Paulding High School, (TX) 3 Stars

Gary Crow, QB, Countryside High School (FL) 3/4 Stars

National Signing Day started at 7AM for the Hurricanes and it came with 6 signings.

The most notable from this group is DE, Tyriq McCord, Jefferson High School, (Tampa, FL). A 4 star recruit, many have him as one of the top 10 defensive end prospects in the nation and a Top 100 prospect overall. As a senior at Jefferson he had 59 tackles, 11.5 sacks and 3 forced fumbles. At 6’3”, 220lbs, analysts love McCord’s athletic ability and build. The possibility to move to OLB exists.

The second wave of recruits began at 8AM and saw Miami sign 9 players.

The biggest signing here was WR, Angelo Jean-Louis, Palm Beach Central High School, (Wellington, FL). Jean-Louis is regarded as a 4 star recruit and the number 4 wide receiver overall. Analysts say he has good height (6’0”) with the potential to become a real playmaker.

The rest of the morning saw Miami sign 9 more recruits. The biggest being CB, Tracy Howard, Miramar High School, Miramar, FL). Howard is the number one cornerback, number three prospect in the state of Florida, and is ranked in the top 20 on the  major recruiting websites overall. Analysts see similarities between Howard and Nick Waisome from the 2011 class with the difference being Howard’s physicality. At 5’11”, 175lbs, Howard has good size and speed and brings an overall skill-set to Miami.

Al Golden continues the task of bringing Miami back to a prominent level. The effects of the 2012 class won’t necessarily be felt until a year or two down the road but at the very least Miami has solid building blocks to hopefully accelerate their return to competing for conference titles and ultimately the National Championship.
