SEC Tournament bids farewell to Atlanta today

Today when the Gators face Kentucky for SEC Championship game and it will mark the end of the tournament being held in Atlanta.?The tournament will become a semi-fixture in Nashville starting next year. The new home will be the Bridgestone Arena nine of the next 11 years. They are still negotiating with cities for the 2018 and 2022 tournaments with the best bets being St. Louis and Tampa.

The Georgia Dome, which opened in 1992, won't even be here in a few years. The building will be razed and a new $1 billion football facility will go up down the street. They'll pave paradise and put up a parking lot.

But it makes sense for the SEC to move to Nashville, with a stop in St. Louis for the University of Missouri and Tampa, for the University of Florida.

"Our fans have made it clear to us they prefer a basketball arena, and so then it's a question of where," SEC commissioner Mike Slive told ESPN. "And we've had good experience here, and it's easy for our fans. You can get to the arena. You can stay in a hotel. You can go eat. And you can go listen to music and you only have to walk. In some ways, it's a perfect storm here."
