Seahawks GM Says He’d “Listen” To Matt Flynn Offers

If you have a spare, too-expensive backup quarterback, today’s the day to tell the world you may or may not be interested in moving him. Even though the world already knows you would.
After 49ers general manager Trent Baalke made sufficiently clear he was willing to move Alex Smith, his Seahawks counterpart John Schneider admitted he’d be willing to listen to what you might offer for Matt Flynn.
After signing Flynn to a three-year, $19.5 million contract last offseason, third-round rookie Russell Wilson exceeded every expectation and made the job his own.
“I think we have a great setup,” Schneider said when asked his plans for Flynn. “I feel very blessed that we have two quarterbacks, two starting-caliber guys. What happened last year didn’t really have a reflection on what Matt did, or Tarvaris [Jackson] for that matter. It was really what Russell did in terms of just kind of stepping forward and taking charge. . . .
“It’s so early. Everybody is in the middle of the draft process. So it’s not like I’ve had a chance to sit down with other general managers and some of the people I know around the league to talk about what their situation is. As you guys well know, we’re always going to listen to everything and if we’re not doing that, we think we’re not doing our job. That doesn’t necessarily mean we will do something with Matt.”
