Schedule could cost FSU a BCS Title Berth
In this week’s BCS poll the Florida State Seminoles have pulled back into the number two slot ahead of the Oregon Ducks but that could be short lived. Thursday night the PAC 12 conference’s two highest-ranked teams — No.3 Oregon and No. 5 Stanford — will face off on ESPN 9 p.m. ET from Stanford Stadium, Stanford, California.
If Stanford can help the Seminoles out with a win that would be epic. However, if the Ducks are the winners then things get very interesting.
There would be four games left to go in the regular season and if both FSU and the Ducks win out the nod would LIKELY go to Oregon due to – strength of schedule. The Ducks final four opponents are a combined record of 23-10 while FSU’s final four has a weak 13-20 record.
So what are FSU fans doing from this point forward?
FSU fans are cheering for either LSU or Auburn to beat Alabama. The Oregon Ducks will still have a PAC 12 Championship game, most likely against the Arizona State Sun Devils. Meanwhile, baring an upset along the way FSU needs a rematch in the ACC Championship Game with the Hurricanes. While, beating Miami twice in the same season would not really help FSU that much in the BCS standings, facing another ACC foe like Georgia Tech or Virginia Tech would be worse because will likely not be ranked.
Bottom-line here is for FSU to win out and wait to see what happens to both Alabama or Oregon. Contol what you can and that is your own record. By the way lurking back at the No. 4 spot is the Ohio State Buckeyes of Urban Meyer who could go undefeated for a second straight season. Should someone slip along the way the Buckeyes, like FSU are waiting their turn.Schedule could cost FSU a BCS Title Berth by James Williams
