Romero Osby Talks NBA Summer League And Magic (VIDEO)
It’s no secret the Orlando Magic have a young roster, even with the recent addition of Channing Frye. The team could still use some strong leadership on and off the court and 24-year-old Romero Osby is hoping to be that guy.
Osby, was selected by the Magic in the 2nd round (51st overall) of the 2013 NBA Draft after averaging 16.0 points and 7.1 rebounds as a senior at the University of Oklahoma, all while being named the team’s MVP and earning All-Big 12 1st Team honors.
“I feel I can fit in good with the Magic, I have the leadership skills to help out the younger guys as well as compete with them,” Osby said.
The 6-8 forward scored 5.7 points on 45.5 percent shooting along with 4.0 rebounds per game for the Magic during the 2013 pre-season, but the team elected to not keep him on the final roster.
Osby went on to play his D-League ball in Maine for The Maine Red Claws this past season, where he says he learned more about the game and himself.
“I learned how to carry myself as a professional, I actually think the D-League was my best option,” Osby said.
This year Osby is playing in his second NBA summer league with the Magic, and is hoping he has gained enough experience to make a lasting impression on General Manager Rob Hennigan and head coach Jacque Vaughn.
“I’ve grown a lot from last year to this year, I am a lot more relaxed out there,” Osby said.
Osby kept in contact with Victor Oladipo and says his friendship with the young guard goes further than basketball.

“Me and Victor have a great relationship, we started this journey together and even though we didn’t play together during the season we always stayed in touch and he is a guy I will always be able to call my friend,” Osby said.
