Reports: Bucs QB Josh Freeman Fined
The Bucs may be off the next few days as part of a bye week, but the plot continues to thicken in the on-going battle between the organization and recently-demoted quarterback Josh Freeman.
Jim Trotter of Sports Illustrated reported Wednesday that Freeman was fined twice in the last month by the club for conduct detrimental to the team.
Those infractions were for doing an unauthorized interview with ESPN last week and for missing a team meeting. Freeman plans to appeal them through the players union.
Tuesday morning, after news broke about Freeman’s participation in the NFL’s substance abuse program, Freeman was held out of a team meeting so that head coach Greg Schiano and general manager Mark Dominik could speak with him privately before he rejoined his teammates.
Freeman was not fined for that missed meeting but a previous missed meeting. According to Roy Cummings of the Tampa Tribune, his total fines since opening day for five infractions cost a reported $35,000.
