Reds Not Working On Extension For Jay Bruce

Reds outfielder Jay Bruce would like to be a Red for life, but the team doesn’t seem interested in an extension at this time, according to MLB.com’s Mark Sheldon.

When discussing Bruce’s recent request, it’s interesting to examine Evan Longoria’s extension, which basically guarantees he spends his entire career with the Rays. Like Longoria, Bruce still has a number of years left on his current contract. He signed a six-year, $51 million extension in 2010, and isn’t eligible for free agency until after the 2016 season.

Bruce and his agent have reached out to Reds general manager Walt Jocketty, but he didn’t seem keen on the idea of giving Bruce an extension. Jocketty said an extension had not been discussed at that time.
