Red Sox Acquire Kaminska from Pittsburgh
BOSTON, MAThe Boston Red Sox today acquired minor league right-handed pitcher Kyle Kaminska from the Pittsburgh Pirates to complete the November 28 trade of right-handed pitcher Zach Stewart. Kaminska has been assigned to Triple-A Pawtucket. Executive Vice President/General Manager Ben Cherington made the announcement.
Kaminska, 24, combined to go 9-4 with one save, a 4.19 ERA (38 ER) and 66 strikeouts with just 11 walks allowed in 81.2 innings over 40 appearances (4 starts) between the Pirates and Marlins systems last season. He spent the majority of the year in Double-A Jacksonville, going 6-3 with a 5.11 ERA (28 ER/49.1 IP) and 42 strikeouts, before being acquired by the Pirates on July 31. After the season, he made six starts for Scottsdale in the Arizona Fall League, where he compiled a 3-1 record with a 1.61 ERA (5 ER/28.0 IP), 21 strikeouts and four walks allowed. Selected by the Marlins in the 25th round of the 2007 draft, the right-hander is 30-28 with a 4.22 ERA (229 ER/488.2 IP) and 400 strikeouts in 135 career appearances (66 starts) in the Marlins (2007-12) and Pirates (2012) systems. He has issued just 1.8 walks per nine innings over his six minor league seasons.
