Rays Want Out: Steinberg’s Letter To The Mayor
St. Petersburg Mayor Bill Foster got a response from his letter to the Tampa Bay Rays but it wasn’t the response he was looking for.
The Rays’ owner Stuart Steinberg responded to the mayor’s Gateway/Carillon baseball stadium proposal with his own letter and a request to amend the lease at Tropicana Field. Steinberg would also like to explore other options in Hillsborough County as well.
The Rays have a lease with Tropicana Field through 2027 and are blocked from negotiating a new stadium deal with anyone outside of Pinellas County.
