Rays Prospect Tim Beckham Suffers Another Setback - Tears ACL
Rays Prospect Tim Beckham Tears ACL - Expected To Miss Most Of 2014
In the midst of the news that the Rays had re-signed first baseman James Loney to a 3yr/$21M deal Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times sent out a tweet that was disheartening to say the least:
#Rays INF Tim Beckham to miss significant portion of '14 season after tearing ACL in right knee. Made it to majors end of last season.

Topkin followed up that news saying tweeting that Beckham was injured while working out and although surgery seems likely they are still working out the plan.
Beckham was the overall #1 pick in the 2008 draft and his development through the Rays system has been tough sledding but after posting a .276/.342/.387 slash line with the Bulls he received a September call up.
He made his debut against the Texas Rangers on September 19th pinch hitting for Matt Joyce against Tanner Scheppers and delivered a single for his first major league hit.
Last season he began the season as the Durham Bulls second baseman but after Hak-Ju Lee tore his ACL in a game on April 20th Beckham returned to his position at shortstop.
Now, like two ships passing in the night, Beckham will begin the process that occurs after tearing the ACL while Hak-Ju Lee tries to finish off the process and returns to man the shortstop position for the Durham Bulls in 2014.
