Rays’ Matt Joyce: “We’re Not A Bad Team”
The Tampa Bay Rays lost 11-6 Thursday night to cap off a four-game series with the Miami Marlins. They got swept, and their losing streak has now hit 10 games. Outfielder Matt Joyce doesn’t believe the Rays are a bad team.
“It’s unbelievable,” Joyce said, via the Tampa Bay Times. “It’s almost to the point that it’s ridiculous. We’re not a bad team; we’re really not. We have some great players who have some tremendous talent. It just seems like we have not been on the same page.”
The Rays have had many losing streaks throughout their history and they almost always manage to bounce back. Who would have thought they’d end up deep in the playoffs last year? They got hot at the very end of the season and barely squeaked in. Then, they went on to play the Boston Red Sox in the ALDS, when they finally lost. The Times reports that their most recent skid matches the fourth worst in franchise history.
The 10-game streak matches the fourth worst in franchise history, second longest since shedding their Devil Rays past to a 2009 11-gamer. The 23-38 record, and accompanying features, such as games under .500 and games back, also take them back to their dark (green) days.
“It’s frustrating, it’s shocking, there’s a long list of words that can describe it,” Joyce said. “At the end of the day, we’re stuck in the middle of it, and we’re the only ones that can pull ourselves out.”
The Rays start a four-game series against the Seattle Mariners tonight at home. Seattle is third in the American League West and stand at three games over .500 with a 31-28 record.Rays' Matt Joyce: "We're Not A Bad Team" by Sports Talk Florida
