Rays Look To Win Series Over Giants, Lineups

With their 2-1 victory over the San Francisco Giants (49-60) the Tampa Bay Rays (65-45) have put themselves into a position to win the 3-game series. The Rays last lost a series on June 18th and 19th against the Boston Red Sox – they are 10-0-2 in series since then.

[1]The Rays will send Roberto Hernandez [2] (6-11, 4.71 ERA) to the mound against the Giants Guillermo Moscoso [3] (0-0-, 6.75). Today will mark the 21st start of the year at home where he is 5-4 with a 3.87 ERA (70.1 IP/31 ER). He is coming off a sparkling complete game 5-2 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks where he within 1-out of the complete game shutout before yielding a 2-run home run to Eric Chavez [4].

Hernandez is making his 4th interleague start of the season and in his previous 3 outings has a record of 3-0 with a 1.52 ERA (4ER/23.2 IP) and has held the opposition to a .160 batting average (13 for 81).

The Giants Guillermo Moscoso [3] will be making his first start of the season taking the place of Barry Zito [5] who has been moved to the bullpen. The Giants acquired him from the Chicago Cubs on July 26th where he had spent the entire season in Triple-A Iowa going 7-5 withh a 3.93 ERA in 17 starts. He ranked second in the Pacific Coast League with 9.0 K’s per 9 innings pitched.  He will be making his 3rd start against the Rays and has gone 0-1 with an 8.38 ERA (9ER, 9.2 IP) in his previous two starts.
