The Rays played like they were looking for creative ways to lose. Trailing 4-2 after 4 innings they cut the lead to 4-3 on a Jose Molina [2] RBI single.

The score remained 4-3 Seattle into the 8th inning. James Loney [3] led off with a walk and Sean Rodriguez [4] came in to pinch run for him. Wil Myers [5] singled and the Rays had men at 1st and 2nd with nobody out.  David DeJesus [6] came in to pinch hit for Jose Molina but the innings complexion changed when Sean Rodriguez got picked off 2nd base.

DeJesus sent a ball deep to right field but Franklin Gutierrez [7] raced back to make the catch. Luke Scott [8] came in to pinch hit for Yunel Escobar [9] and delivered with a RBI double to the gap in left center to tie the game at 4-4.   Carter Capps [10] was rattled and walked both Desmond Jennings [11] and Ben Zobrist [12] to load the bases for Evan Longoria [13].  Capps first two pitches were out of the strike zone and Evan helped Capps out by swinging at both. Off balance and down in the count Longoria weakly grounded out to 3rd base to end the inning.

Joel Peralta [14] came in to work the bottom of the 8th and with 1-out Kyle Seager [15] sent a long fly ball to center that Desmond Jennings ran down but had the ball hit the heel of his glove and Seager moved into scoring position.

Kendrys Morales [16] drew a walk but Peralta struck out Michael Saunders [17] for the second out.  Justin Smoak [18] did the damage on a fly ball down the right field line. Wil Myers raced towards it and made a diving attempt but the ball hit the thumb of his glove allowing 2 runs to score to give the Mariners the 6-4 lead.

Joel Peralta (2-6, 2.85 ERA) took the loss and Carter Capps (3-3, 5.23 ERA) was credited with the win. Danny Farquar came in to work the 9th inning and earned his 13th save.

Alex Cobb [19] looked shaky in the first inning giving up a lead off double to Brad Miller [20] who advanced to 3rd on a ground out to second by Franklin Gutierrez and came in to score on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Dustin Ackley [21] to give the Mariners a 1-0 lead.

Delmon Young [22] was inserted in the lineup to add power and because right handed batters hit Iwakuma better than left handed hitters. The move paid immediate dividends in the top of the 2nd as he sent a 414 home run to left to tie the score at 1-1.

The Rays took a 2-1 lead in the 3rd inning. With 2-out and nobody on base Ben Zobrist and Evan Longoria hit back to back singles and Matt Joyce walked to load the bases. With Delmon Young at the plate Iwakuma uncorked a wild pitch that allowed Zobrist to score.

Dustin Ackley led of the bottom of the 3rd with an infield hit but was erased on a fielders choice off the bat of Ryan Franklin [23]. With Brad Miller batting Franklin got into scoring position by stealing 2nd base and advanced to 3rd on a Brad Miller ground out. Franklin Gutierrez sent a chopper up the middle that nicked off the glove of Ben Zobrist to score Franklin and tie the game at 2-2.

The Mariners weren’t done as Franklin Gutierrez got into scoring position by stealing second base and came in to score on a Kyle Seager single to put the Mariners up 3-2.

Raul Ibanez [24] led off the bottom of the 4th inning with a solo home run to put the Mariners up 4-2.

Alex Cobb worked the first 6 inning allowing 4R/ER on 7 hits striking out 5 and walking 1 and Jake McGee worked a scoreless 7th inning to give the Rays offense a chance at over taking the Mariners but unfortunately — yeah, that happened.

The Rays will take on the Mariners tomorrow evening at 9:10. Chris Archer [25] (8-3, 3.14 ERA) will be opposed by James Paxton [26] who is making his major league debut.
