The Rays lost the series finale against the Detroit Tigers by a final score of 5-2. With the loss the Rays drop the series to the Tigers but still return to Tropicana Field with a 5-3 record on their 3-city 8 game road trip through Miami, Cleveland, and Detroit. The loss drops the Rays to 32-27 and the Tigers improve to 32-26 with the win.

[1] [2]Roberto Hernandez [3] (3-6, 5.03 ERA) took the loss going 5.1 innings allowing 4R/ER on 1o hits striking out 6 and walking 1. Of the Tigers 10 hits against Hernandez only 2 went for an extra bases with the big blow being a home run allowed to former battery mate Victor Martinez [4] in the 4th inning.

Max Scherzer [5] (8-0, 3.24 ERA) picked up the victory working 7 innings allowing 1R/ER on only 4 hits while striking out 9 and only walking 2.  Former Rays reliever Joaquin Benoit [6] worked the 8th inning and allowed a run and Jose Valverde [7] worked a scoreless 9th inning in picking up his 7th save on the season.

The Rays offense was held to 3 runs or less for the 3rd time in 4 games and will look to break out at home against the Baltimore Orioles over the weekend. Chris Archer [8] (0-1, 11.25) will take the hill for the Rays looking for better results than he had in Cleveland last weekend. The Orioles will counter with Jason Hammel [9] (7-3, 5.43 ERA).

The Rays front office will now turn their attention to the MLB draft which begins tonight with the first 2 rounds and the competitive balance rounds (a total of 73 picks). The Rays have two first round pics (21st and 29th overall) and a second round pick (60th overall).
