Rays Bounce Back, Defeat Angels 4-1
The Tampa Bay Rays ended their 3-game losing streak by defeating the Los Angeles Angles by a final score of 4-1. The remain 2.5 games behind the Boston Red Sox in the AL East as they beat the Baltimore Orioles 4-3.
Chris Archer worked 7 strong innings allowing 1R/ER on 5 hits striking out 5 and walking 0 in picking up the win to improve to 8-5 and lower his ERA to 2.81.
Joel Peralta worked his league leading 65th game of the year and a night after striking out the side retired all 3 hitters he faced.
A night after giving up the lead in the 9th inning Fernando Rodney was given a chance at redemption and worked a 1-2-3 ninth inning including 2 strikeouts in picking up his 31st save on the season.
Garrett Richards started for the Angles and lasted on 3.1 innings and allowed 4R/ER on 7 hits striking out 2 and walking 3. ?He had trouble with his control all night throwing only 57% of his pitches for strikes (48 of 86 pitches). He took the loss to drop to 4-6 with a 4.16 ERA.
Matt Joyce continued his hot hitting by driving in the first Rays run on a sacrifice fly scoring David Dejesus in the bottom of the first inning. The Rays tacked on 3 more runs in the bottom of the 4th.

Ben Zobrist followed with a single to score Jose Lobaton as David Dejesus raced to 3rd base. ?Evan Longoria sent a slow roller to Erick Aybar who was unable to field it cleanly as Dejesus came in to score the Rays 4th run.
