Rays Bats Remain Quiet In 7-1 Loss To Red Sox

Odorizzi Gets Roughed Up As Rays Lose 5th Straight Game

The Rays continue to struggle in 2014 as they lose their season-high fifth straight game tonight.

Though the Astros lost as well tonight, the Rays still have the worst winning percentage in the American League with a record of 23-33. They are also 9.5 games out of first place in the division.

Jake Odorizzi got the start for the Rays, but he continued his inconsistent start to the season as he allowed 5 earned runs on 6 hits and 1 walk over 3 1/3 innings. On the bright side, Odorizzi did collect 6 strikeouts in the short outing.

Ruby De La Rosa, on the other hand, excelled in his first start since July 31st, 2011. He held the Rays scoreless over 7 innings on 4 hits and struck out 8 batters.

The lone bright spot for the Rays was Kevin Kiermaier, as he scored the team’s only run on an inside the park home run. You can view the video clip here.

The Rays will send Erik Bedard (2-3, 4.10) to the mound in the finale against Jon Lester (5-6, 3.45) tomorrow afternoon as they look to avoid the sweep.

The other good thing we can take from the night is how good the Rays fielding was, as they didn’t record an error and made some pretty spectacular plays.
