Rays Bang Out 20 Hits In 11-3 Victory Over Twins
Matt More Bends But Does Not Break In Rays Victory
Wil Myers returned to the Rays lineup and smacked three doubles in his first three plate appearance as the Rays jumped on Twins starter Vance Worley early battering him for seven earned runs on 11 base hits (including six doubles) in just 2.2 innings of work.
On the evening the Rays banged out 20 base hits paced by Myers trio of doubles. Ben Zobrist reached base four times with a hit and three walks.
With the exception of Evan Longoria every Rays starter had at least one base hit.
Matt Moore started for the Rays and had difficulty finding the strike zone but despite allowing six walks he only allowed one run in 4.2 innings of work. After his outing he told reporters, “Everything did feel good minus the six walks, a solid day. Those are definitely a black mark on today.”
Brandon Gomes came in to replace Moore in the fifth inning with two on and two out and after a passed ball advanced the runners to second and third he walked Trevor Plouffe before retiring Oswaldo Arcia on a fly out to right. He stayed in the game to work the sixth inning allowing a single to Chris Herrmann and uncorked a wild pitch but did not allow a run.
Brad Boxberger worked a scoreless seventh and eighth innings allowing a hit and a walk.
Adam Liberatore came in to work the ninth inning and allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits and a walk.
