Radko Gudas Avoids Serious Injury
There was a scary moment in the Lightnings 5-2 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs Wednesday night, when defenseman Radko Gudas went down awkwardly near the Lightning bench. Gudas got off the ice putting no weight on his right leg, and needed help getting down the tunnel. Gudas stayed off just off the bench for a few moments before walking slowly, with a little more weight on the leg, down the hallway to the locker room. Replays shown in the press box did not look good, but Gudas returned to start the second period.
I was out of the sightline, so I did not even know he was hurt until the trainer came down and said we might have an issue with Gudas, head coach Jon Cooper said. He is a pretty tough kid. He came back, gave me the look, and he was OK. It was great too, because we wouldnt get to appreciate the bomb he let go. Was that the third goal? That was an absolute bomb.
Gudas though, did not seem to be concerned postgame.
No, Gudas said when asked if he was concerned about the initial injury. It was right by the bench, and I just stood up on my one leg and asked for a change. I couldnt really step on my leg the first few seconds, but after I got off I tried to move it a little bit and that is when it felt alright to play.
