PSG Signs Young Brazilian Star Lucas For ?45 Million
Paris Saint-Germain reached a deal Wednesday night to acquire Lucas Moura in a transfer from Sao Paulo, and signed the Brazilian midfielder to a deal through 2017.
Lucas will join PSG in January, the club said.
Lucas helped Brazil's Olympic squad to a 3-0 victory Tuesday over South Korea. Brazil will face Mexico for the gold medal on Saturday.
The 19-year-old star had been repeatedly linked with a move to Europe during the summer, with Manchester United among the clubs interested.
French newspaper L'Equipe reported Wednesday that Lucas' transfer could be for as much as 45 million euros ($55.7 million).
PSG have invested heavily this summer, with the Lucas deal following the arrivals of stars including Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Thiago Silva and Ezequiel Lavezzi.
Thiago Silva revealed PSG sporting director Leonardo, a former Sao Paulo player, had sought his advice before completing the deal.
The defender told L'Equipe: "Leonardo asked my opinion on Lucas. I told him only good things about him -- not because he is my friend but because he has enormous technical quality. I will be happy to have him alongside me at PSG. He will play a big role. He is skilful in front of goal."
"I spoke to Thiago Silva and Leonardo and they spoke very well," Lucas told with Brazil's Globo before the transfer was complete. "I know they are building a wonderful project at this club, with a fantastic structure and major players. That is what they said.
"No doubt it would be better if I can help Sao Paulo a little bit more, though. I said before I want to win a title before leaving and qualify for the Copa Libertadores.
"I can do this with Sao Paulo if the transfer happens in January."
