Mike Williams stabbed in the leg

Update: Williams’ brother turned himself in at 10 p.m. Monday. He is being held overnight without bond at the Orient Road jail on a second-degree felony charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

As of 9 p.m. on Monday, police are still searching for Eric Baylor, brother of Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Williams, who according to police, stabbed Williams in the thigh early Sunday evening and fled the scene.

When police arrived, they found the 26-year-old Williams had suffered a minor laceration in the upper thigh area [1]. He told police that he and Baylor had been “horsing around” in a wrestling match.

But Williams’ account did not match up with that of witnesses, according to Cristal Bermudez Nunez, spokeperson for the Hillsborough County Sherriff’s Office.

“Official sworn statements provided by the witnesses, along with evidence found at the scene, contradicts Mr. Williams’ account of what occurred yesterday,” said Nunez in an email to Sports Talk Florida.

According to those accounts, there was arguing between Williams and his 23-year-old brother.

“With the information given by the witnesses and the evidence found, our detectives obtained a warrant for Eric Baylor for Aggravated Battery Domestic Violence and we are still searching for him at this time.”

Williams was taken by ambulance to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa and was released late Sunday.

On Monday afternoon, HCSO released two 911 calls from the incident.

“I need an ambulance and the cops. One of the Buccaneers got stabbed in the leg,” said one caller, a male.

The dispatcher asked, “Somebody got stabbed?”

The caller responded, “Yes.”

On the second 911 call, another male, out of breath said, “I need…I need an ambulance and the police,” he said frantically.

“You need an ambulance?” the dispatcher asked.

“And the police at Avila,” he responded.

“What’s going on?” the dispatcher asked.

“Ugh…a man just got stabbed by his brother.”

As of Monday afternoon, attempts by the Buccaneers to reach out to Williams had been unsuccessful.

“We’ve reached out to Mike,” Buccaneers GM Jason Licht told Yahoo Sports [2]. “We’ve yet to hear from him. But from what I understand, he’s been treated and released, and that’s a good start. Trying to gather all the facts we can now.”

Licht added, “[We are] disappointed that we had a player in that situation that could have been seriously injured…From what I understand, he’s been treated and released. Our primary focus right now is making sure he’s OK.”

Those with information regarding Baylor’s whereabouts are asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-873-8477.
