Photo: Blue Jays Wearing Special Caps Today

When the Rays go to visit the Blue Jays today, they will see the Jays in a special, unique cap. More so than the rest of the league.
The cap will will have a distinct Canadian style to it , writes Brendan Kennedy of TheStar.com. All other MLB teams designs are inspired by the U.S. Army, but the Jays will wear caps and jerseys displaying a simulation of the Canadian Disruptive Pattern, a digital camouflage used by the Canadian military and more colloquially known as CADPAT.
They tried to wear this design last year but didn’t satisfy the necessary paperwork in time. Since it’s illegal for any non military personnel to wear the digital camo, it will be a simulation.
“The materials and the inks have certain properties that are useful from a military perspective and those items are top secret,” said Anthony Partipilo, the Jays’ vice-president of marketing and merchandise. “(The design) is the closest thing you can get to it in terms of simulating it.”
“We give them the Pantone colours, but not the pattern itself,” said Louise Des Roches, a spokeswoman for the Canadian Forces. Des Roches said the Canadian military has previously licensed the use of a simulated CADPAT for the Toronto Maple Leafs and Ottawa Senators, but this marks the first time for a Major League Baseball team.
