Phils To Extend Sandberg

The Philadelphia Phillies have removed the tag interim from Ryne Sandergs title. Sandberg has been given a three-year extension to remain as the Phillies manager.

Sandberg took over the Phillies on Aug. 16 when the team let go of Charlie Manuel. Prior to taking over the Phillies the team had dropped 19 of 22.

Chase Utley, on Sandberg's performance so far, told MLB.com's Todd Zolecki:

[Sandberg] is positive. Hes always talking during the game. Hes definitely into the game, and guys respect him for that. Hes given a lot of guys an opportunity to play, which is nice. So far hes done a great job.

Since Sandberg has taken over the Phillies have gone 18-17.
