Update: (11:14 am) A source tells me that Hillis’ diagnosis is a hyperextended knee and is not considered serious. He is not expected to miss significant playing time.
Former ‘Madden coverboy’ Peyton Hillis suffered a setback Thursday night in his preseason debut for the Buccaneers when he left the game with a knee injury.
In the third quarter, Hillis took a helmet to the knee from Ravens cornerback Asa Jackson.
He fumbled the ball and immediately grabbed his leg. He was able to leave the field under his own capacity, but can be seen here in this video limping heavily.
Bucs head coach Greg Schiano did not know the extent of Hillis’ injury after the game, and awaits further testing.
“I don’t know yet. They’re working, checking it out. That’s a shame. He and Brian Leonard really did a nice job. We’re looking for that depth behind Doug, so that’s a positive. But let’s hope he’s well.”
Hills rushed for 13 yards on four carries and is competing with Leonard for a backup role behind Doug Martin.
