In the bottom of the 4th inning Ben Zobrist  hit a foul ball that hit the B-ring behind home plate. Despite the fact that Jarrod Saltalamacchia  caught the ball Zobrist at bat was prolonged as the ground rules call for any ball hitting the B-Ring in foul territory being ruled a dead ball.
Some fans were notably upset by the ruling and noted their objections on Twitter but one tweet in particular came as a surprise as it came from the reputable Peter Gammons who took the opportunity to trash Tropicana Field and bring up the lack of attendance:
Maybe if the Rays played in an amusement park rather than this joke they’d do better than be last in the majors in attendance

You’d think that someone of Gammons stature wouldn’t stoop to this level but the Red Sox love is hard to wash away – I guess
