Penguins Score Late, Defeat Lightning 5-4

The Tampa Bay Lightning fell by a final score of 5-4 to the Pittsburgh Penguins in front of 19,204 at the Tampa Bay Times Forum. The Lightning drop to 3-2-0 (6 points) while the Penguins improve to 4-1-0 (8 points).

Stamkos_Pittsburgh_10_12_2013 [1]Entering the 3rd period the Tampa Bay Lightning held a 3-2 advantage over the Pittsburgh Penguins. The lead was short lived as 0:25 seconds into the period Sidney Crosby [2] scored his second goal of the game (assists to Rob Scuderi [3] and Matt Niskanen [4]).

The Penguins went on the power play at the 8:28 mark when Alex Killorn [5] was called for holding but the Lightning penalty kill unit was unable to keep the Penguins from taking the lead.

A the 10:25 mark Sidney Crosby [2] put the Penguins up 4-3 as he found the back of net once again (assists to Jussi Jokinen [6] and Evgeni Malkin [7]) to complete his 8th hat trick of his career and first since December 2, 2010 against the Atlanta Thrashers.

At the 3:34 mark the Penguins Chris Kunitz [8] was called for hooking and the Lightning went on a power play. With 3:02 remaining in the period Alex Killorn [5] scored the game tying goal (assists to Richard Panik [9] and Tyler Johnson [10]).

With just 0:57 second to go int he game Richard Panik [9] was called for tripping and the Penguins went back on the power play. They took advantage of the opportunity as     blasted a slap shot past Ander Lindback to put the Penguins up 5-4.

The Lightning goals were scored by Teddy Purcell [11] (3), Alex Killorn [5](2), Valtteri Fippula (4), and Steven Stamkos [12] (4).
