BREAKING: Aaron Hernandez Taken Into Police Custody, Released by the Patriots
BREAKING: New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez has been released, the team announced this morning after Hernandez was taken into police custody Wednesday morning.
Wearing a white T-shirt, red shorts, and sneakers, Hernandez was led from his home in handcuffs into a police cruiser.
The Patriots issued the following statement after his release: “A young man was murdered last week and we extend our sympathies to the family and friends who mourn his loss. Words cannot express the disappointment we feel knowing that one of our players was arrested as a result of this investigation. We realize that law enforcement investigations into this matter are ongoing. We support their efforts and respect the process. At this time, we believe this transaction is simply the right thing to do.”
Hernandez has been linked to the investigation of the death of 27-year-old semiprofessional football player Odin Lloyd, whose body was found half of a mile from Hernandez’ home in North Attleborough on June 17.
Police have ruled Lloyd’s death a homicide. Hernandez has not officially been named a suspect in the case.
On Monday, police searched a pond and wooded area near Hernandez’ home. Police also conducted multiple searches of Hernandez’ home in the past week.
