Patriots Offering Free Aaron Hernandez Jersey Exchange
It is clear that the New England Patriots want absolutely nothing to do with Aaron Hernandez, once a star tight end and now the center of a murder investigation involving the death of 27-year-old Odin Lloyd.
The Patriots ProShop, the team’s official store, announced Friday that it’s holding an Aaron Hernandez No. 81 jersey exchange on July 6-7.
Fans will have a chance to trade in their Hernandez jerseys in exchange for the jersey of another player, free of charge.
Receipts are not required.
The store is also accepting “85” jerseys, a number previously worn by Hernandez.
“We know that children love wearing their Patriots jerseys, but may not understand why parents don’t want them wearing their Hernandez jerseys anymore,” according to Patriots spokesperson Stacey James.
“We hope this opportunity to exchange those jerseys at the Patriots ProShop for another player’s jersey will be well received by parents.”
Hernandez was arrested Wednesday morning and was released by the team less than two hours later. The fallout over his alleged involved began much earlier, however.
Cytosport, a sports supplement manufacturer that produces the popular MuscleMilk, severed ties with Hernandez last Friday, three days after his name was mentioned in connection to the crime.
A fourth-round draft pick out of the University of Florida in 2010, Hernandez signed a five-year extension with the Patriots last August worth nearly $40 million.Patriots Offering Free Aaron Hernandez Jersey Exchange by Jenna Laine
