Pair of QB’s Put Orlando Suburb on the Map
Florida’s sophomore Jeff Driskel (Hagerty High) and UCF’s sophomore Blake Bortles (Oviedo High) were cross town rivals during their high school days in Ovideo. Now the two have drawn attention to their home town as they have both established them selves as starting signal callers for their respective programs.
Driskel, a former five-star recruit, struggled to find consistency with the Gators offense in 2011, but in 2012 he has established himself as number one on the depth chart and has been the key to the Gators rise in the BCS polls. Through seven games this season, Driskel has managed the offense quite well while posting eight touchdowns through the air and four on the ground. His completion percentage has jumped nearly 20 points since last year and he’s completing 66.9% of his attempts.
Bortles is now in his third year with the Knights and his first as the starter. Last season Bortles relieved Knights starting quarterback Jeff Godfrey in 10 games and caught the eyes of his coaches while throwing for nearly 1000 yards and six touchdowns. So far this season, Bortles has lead the Knights to a 5-2 start and has thrown for 12 tochdowns and is closing in on 1,600 yards.
