Overturned! Rays Prospect Part Of First Instant Replay Reversal
The Tampa Bay Rays are a part of history when it comes to instant replay in major league baseball (video here). Now they have a footnote in history in regards to expanded instant replay that is being put to the test during play in the Arizona Fall League.
The first ever reversal of the test system involves Rays prospect Ryan Brett playing for the Salt River Rafters against the Scottsdale Scorpions. In the top of the first inning the Rafters attempted a double steal and Brett was called out attempting to steal second base. Rafters manager Mike Shildt came out of the dugout to protest the call and after a brief review lasting less than a minute the play was overturned.
