Orlando Magic Roster Preview: Doron Lamb
Lamb did not get much playing time last season (rookie season) but the offseason has served as perfect time to develop his skills.
The 21-year-old shooting guard has great potential to become a sharpshooter. During his college years at Kentucky, Lamb shot at 49 percent his freshman year and 47 percent his sophomore from downtown.
Lamb shot at 38 percent from deep in the 47 games he appeared in during his rookie campaign. If he keeps on developing his skills he can become a threat on the court.
During the Orlando Summer League this past summer, Lamb played well up until he suffered left knee contusion and missed the last two games. In the three games he did start, he averaged 11.3 points per game and shot at 68 percent from deep.
Lamb was part of a six-player trade, which included the Magic's JJ Redick, Gustavo Ayon and Ish Smith for the Bucks Tobias Harris, Beno Udrih and Doron Lamb back on Feb. 21, 2013.
The young guard out of Kentucky took sometime to adjust to the Magic system. In the last couple weeks of the season, Lamb seemed more comfortable on the court. In April, he broke his career high best of eight points by scoring 16 points, four rebounds, two assists and one steal against his former team, the Bucks. Lamb would score in double digits against the Celtics before closing out his rookie campaign.
Once the season ended the young guys on the Magic roster decided they were going to work together throughout the offseason to get better. With several guards on the roster including Jameer Nelson, Arron Afflalo and Victor Oladipo expect to see Lamb come off the bench.
Currently, Lamb has a three year contract for a little over $2.35 million with the first two years guaranteed. This coming season Lamb is set to make $788,872. Lamb will become a restricted free agent after the 2014-15 season.
The preseason is set to being on Oct. 9 when the Orlando Magic take on the New Orleans Pelicans in Jacksonville at theJacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena. Tickets are on sale now and prices range from $15 to $250.
The Magic will start its 25th 'Silver Season' season on the road. They will face the Indiana Pacers (Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. ET) and Minnesota Timberwolves (Oct. 30 at 8 p.m. ET) before returning to the Amway for the season home opener against the New Orleans Pelicans onNov. 1 at 8 p.m. ET.
