Orioles dealing Matt Wieters?
Baltimore Orioles may be willing to listen to offers on their catcherMatt Wieters. According to a report from Fox Sports Ken Rosenthal, that may be the reality.
The fact that the best catcher in the American League might be up for trade will no doubt stir some interest. After all he has won Gold Gloves, handles pitchers very well and has one of the best arms in the game to gun down runners.
So why trade him?
The Orioles are unsure of Wieters desire to stay with the organization in the long term so they could listen to trade offers this off-season and look into signing one of the top four free-agent catchers that are on the open market this year.Brian McCann,Jarrod Saltalamacchia,Carlos RuizandA.J. Pierzynskiare all free to sign with other teams.
If the Orioles were to trade Wieters, which team(s) would be interested in not only trading some of their younger, upside talent away, but would also negotiate with agent Scott Boras on a long-term deal for Wieters? Its a tough task, but someone may come forward and do it.
Some possible destinations include: Texas Rangers, Chicago White Sox, New York Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays, Miami Marlins and, Chicago Cubs.
The Yankees and Blue Jays are in the American League East with the Orioles, so its not as likely as the other teams listed, but at this point the Orioles will take the best deal. If Dan Duquette can receive an offer he cant refuse from any organization, he would have to think long and hard about it.
