Measurable: 6 feet 9 inches, 204 pounds

Position: Forward

Okaro White was a highly touted player coming out of high school as a 4-star recruit, but his lack of a true position hindered his ability to live up to the ranking. A four year letterman at FSU, White was a key member of the Seminoles’ 2011 ACC Champion team. White finished his career as the 16th leading scorer in program history and he played in two NCAA tournaments while at FSU.

Strengths:

White greatest skill is his pure athleticism. White is a plus defender after spending four years under the tutelage of head coach Leonard Hamilton at Florida State. White’s length and quickness allows him to match-up with smaller, faster players while playing small forward and against bigger power forwards he makes up for his lack of size with instincts and speed.  White also has the ability to score in multiple ways. He can step outside and hit threes, and his athleticism makes him dangerous when he decides to drop his head and drive to the hole.

Weaknesses:

White is the epitome of a tweener. He played both forward positions while at FSU, but that was partly due to the fact that he struggled to assert himself in either position. White has the athleticism to play small forward, but his game is not developed enough for him to succeed at the position. Hamilton tried for four years to play White at the three position and every year he was forced to moved White back inside.  White is a good, but not great shooter and his skill level keeps him from being a dynamic scorer. White fits best as power forward where he can use his athleticism to beat defenders, but he lacks the size to play inside at the next level. His slender frame allows physical players to control him and shut him down. While he is a very good athlete, White lacks the world class athleticism that allows players like Kevin Durant and Anthony Davis to make up for their slender frames.

Projection: Undrafted

White is simply not big enough to make it as a power forward in the NBA. In order for him to make an NBA roster White has to develop as small forward. He has the potential to be a good player, but he will have to improve his overall skill to have any chance of making it the league. White struggled throughout his career when asked to play the three, but he will have to grow into the role to play at the next level. According to the Tallahassee Democrat White will work out for the Wizards, Warriors, and Pistons this coming week after spending time in Memphis last week working out for the Grizzlies.

Look for White to follow the same path as former Seminoles Xavier Gibson, Luke Loucks, and Derwin Kitchen who have all spent time playing professionally in Europe or Asia since leaving FSU.
